Day 1 of my 30 Days of Art challenge has flown by! Between updating my website and doing life as a full-time creative whose kids are home for the summer (ALL. DAY. EVERY. DAY.) I nearly forgot that I’d committed to starting this challenge today.
Not that anyone is watching me and waiting for it… yet!
But that’s the hope right?!
I mean, I’m a marketer by trade, so I know how consistency and niching can help you from a business growth standpoint, but I try not to think about that too much in my creative endeavors. Metrics are important, of course, but enjoying the creating is my focus.
For Day 1, I decided to follow-up on the Charlotte the Stingray drawing I did recently in Procreate. I have plans to turn it into a sticker, but for now I really wanted to get it sculpted into clay. I had a vision of making a tiny little desk friend version of her.

Pssttt… for those of you who don’t know, I shared a little more about who Charlotte the Stingray is in a public post on my Patreon. You don’t need to be a member to read the post.
I was fresh out of polymer clay, but I did find some air dry clay in my stash. It turned out not to be the easiest thing to work with—unfortunately, it was old and a bit dried out—so my sculpture didn’t come out exactly as I’d hoped, but I’m still excited to see what I can do with her once she’s dry and ready to go.

She’ll probably need a couple of days to fully dry before I can start painting on her, but I’m looking forward to continuing to bring her to life. I’m also so very pleased with how the safety eyes turned out on her—so cute! They are technically for my crochet amigurumi creatures, but I’m hoping that actually makes them more secure.
I’m already looking forward to Day 2 and praying this excitement and momentum stays with me this entire 30-day challenge!
